Primetime What?

February 18th 2011 09:41
After realizing how much I sleep during the day, I've figured, who made up the idea of putting prime-time programs at 8pm? For those who like to sleep early, why not try having the best programs at 5pm? Well, most people coming home from work don't have the time to have the best programs a few hours earlier. Now, some don't even care to watch TV, while others view TV programs for most of their day. So, why not put programming in the early morning, like around 4am? Most are in their last cycle of sleep, and wouldn't it make waking up much better when your favorite program is about to come on when you wake up? Here's a new idea: How about having work during the evenings, and sleep during daylight. Would the feel of warmth soothe your sleep much more? I don't mean to be nocturnal, but why not change to whole way we live in a day? How about having stores open 24 hours? or even later during the evening? It sure would feel lively when people do their daily routines during different parts of the whole entire day. I sure would like to see more activity for people during late evenings. Sure, why not put up a huge light bulb to illuminate the world at night, even brighter than we have now! This entire cycle of day, it's a shame we don't use most of it to our advantage. Even I need to have time to watch TV.

BCS Showdown

December 7th 2010 08:57
The battle between Oregon and Auburn is a unique match-up in which one team has never played for a National Championship and the other has shared a National Championship. The Oregon Ducks high powered offense and the commanding leader Cam Newton will make this game a high scoring game. Everyone in the country cannot wait for these two teams to play. SEC has owned its share of the National Title recently, and this will be a match-up of the SEC and the Pac-10, which has never played for a BCS title together. Oregon will come out with a lot of weapons, and we should expect Chip Kelly to dial-up some offense. While Auburn will try to be stout on the defensive line with its defense pitted against a high octane offense of Oregon. It will be interesting to see what uniforms the Oregon Ducks will show up with.

Miami Ranked

October 5th 2010 09:57
U.S. News and World Report has always given a sure measure for prospective college students, to evaluate their desires to attend top notched universities, and competitive, the rankings have been. One university in particular has eclipsed the rankings chart in such a small time-span. The University of Miami propelled to Number 47 in 2011 as one of "America's Best Colleges." Since 2001, UM has climbed 20 spots, ranking above every Florida school and gaining ground as one of the elite colleges in the nation. Echoing the halls are the dedicated faculty and poised student interactivity that the U of M possesses. It has had a record breaking campaign surpassing the 1 billion dollar mark for donations to the university. The university is committed to providing the best education money can buy, and reasonably priced. Getting in is hard enough. With a low acceptance rate, attracting the best and brightest minds are for the lucky ones that can impress Admissions. Although athletics have moved slowly since the Miami Hurricanes football team's loss in the national championship in 2002-2003, the Hurricanes are positioned to rank high during the Randy Shannon era. It's all about the U, as they say. Surely, taking that number one spot in the rankings that Harvard holds may be daunting, but the progression that the University of Miami is making and the accolades and attention given to this university will outshine the competition.

Solar Vehicle Competition

June 12th 2010 04:49
The North American Solar Challenge is a competition to build and to race solar operated cars across American country. One team, the University of Minnesota, has built it's own this year, as with every other challengers. The University of Minnesota won gold last year of 2009, with University of Kentucky finishing 2nd, while Northwestern 3rd. Minnesota's Centaurus II will compete this year with other teams eager for road blood. This year, it will be a 1,100 mile race from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Chicago, Illinois. These cars, powered only by the sun, will compete in a race of 18 teams. The University of Minnesota had built 8 solar vehicles in the past. They spent over 50,000 hours of planning and building of the car.

Much like college football, the stage for college racing being a sport could be in the future if more colleges have the power to build solar cars like the ones competing. It would be the NASCAR of college or even the Grand Prix. Solar energy is one form of energy not quite apparent in the manufacturing of "green" cars. Fuel efficiency is one thing, but what is the time table when it comes to solar powered cars. Is it too difficult to develop, or are we forgetting something much more valuable. I'm sure I wouldn't want my car to all of a sudden stop working because of a malfunction with a solar panel. Or is there another way to develop this solar car for the production of vehicles. I'm sure this race will prove it. Go Gophers!
